American Idol: La Dernière Finale
La semaine dernière se tenait la finale de la dernière saison d’American Idol. Au début, je ne pensais pas que je pourrais y aller. Elle était prévue pour le mois d’avril de cette année alors qu’habituellement elle se tenait en mai. Lorsqu’ils nous ont contacté, nous, les anciens participants, j’avais déjà des choses de planifiées. Quelques jours avant la diffusion de la finale, j’ai ressenti que je devais regarder mon agenda. J’ai réalisé que malgré ce que j’avais dit en février que je ne serais pas disponible, mon emploi du temps avait changé. J’ai demandé à mon manager s’il était toujours temps de participer pour que je puisse dire au revoir à tellement de gens qui ont influencés ma vie en tant que spectateur et participant à l’émission. J’étais heureux lorsque j’ai reçu la réponse disant que malgré le peu de jours restants avant le début, je pourrais y aller.

Je les mentionne tous pour que vous puissiez avoir une idée du nombre de personnes réellement impliquées, et du nombre de personnes qui m’ont personnellement influencées dans une émission comme celle-là, peu importe qu’ils soient connus ou pas.)
Lorsque je suis arrivé pour les répétitions le mardi, j’étais nerveux au début. Mais j’ai commencé à voir des visages familiers. Carly Smithson et David Cook qui étaient dans la même saison que moi. Puis Melinda Doolittle, Ruben Studdard, Kris Allen, Alison Iraheta et beaucoup d’autres. J’ai aussi vu beaucoup de connaissances dans l’équipe en coulisses comme Jackie et Debbie, les directeurs de scène, Machael Orland et Dorian, les coachs musicaux. Drina, Megan, Sam, Patrick, Charles, Nigel, Wylleen, Mike, Ricky Minor, Paul le guitariste, Pete, Katie et beaucoup d’autres.
Et puis j’ai vu encore d’autres participants : Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, Jordin Sparks, Justin Guarini, Tamyra Gray, Danny Gokey et bien d’autres. J’en ai rencontré des nouveaux, Colton Dixon, Candice Glover, Jessica Sanchez… Nous étions vraiment nombreux ! Des nouveaux membres de l’équipe comme Cinthia du Guatemala, Nina, Rachel, Paul, Geri, Becca, Kelsey, Margot, Omar, Alex, Cameron et Mary Jane.
J’ai rencontré les participants de cette saison Trent Harmon, La Porsha Renae, Dalton, Gianna, Lee, Olivia, Avalon, et d’autres. Trent Harmon avait mentionné mon nom au cours d’un épisode précédent et j’étais vraiment touché en le regardant. De savoir que le travail que nous faisons peut en influencer ou en inspirer d’autres est merveilleux, et c’était un vrai privilège de le rencontrer et de voir à quel point il était humble, et combien les autres étaient gentils.
David Archuleta: avant et maintenant
Pendant les répétitions et en étant avec tous ceux avec et pour qui j’avais travaillé auparavant, c’était amusant de penser que 8 ans plus tôt, âgé de 16/17 ans, j’accordais beaucoup d’importance à ce qu’ils pensaient tous de moi. Maintenant j’ai pris de l’assurance et j’ai des priorités plus importantes que de plaire aux directeurs et producteurs d’émissions, aux maisons de disque et aux agences. J’ai réalisé à quel point nous avons tous grandis, à quel point j’ai grandi. J’étais reconnaissant d’avoir gagné en maturité grâce à l’émission en tant que chanteur et personne, et pour la maturité plus inspirante que j’ai acquise depuis.
J’ai fait une interview avec Fred Bronson du magazine Billboard. (Son livre sur le hit-parade m’avait inspiré à l’âge de 13-15 ans et m’a fait connaitre beaucoup de nouvelles chansons que je ne connaissais pas avant.) Il m’a demandé ce que cela me faisait d’être dans la mi- saison, la Saison 7, regardant ceux des saisons d’avant, et ceux d’après. J’ai réalisé que l’ancien nom du Dolby Theater était le Kodak Theater. C’est ici que j’avais regardé Kelly Clarkson gagner alors que j’avais 11 ans. Mon père m’avait surpris avec des billets pour la finale parce que j’étais un fan inconditionnel. Je me souviens être quelques rangs derrière Natalie Cole qui était là aussi. Je me souviens être là au couronnement de Kelly, la première gagnante d’American Idol, avec les confettis qui tombaient. J’en ai gardé un pour me faire un souvenir (Mais je suis nul pour conserver les choses et je l’ai malheureusement perdu.) Et j’étais là pour la dernière saison, mais de l’autre côté de ce même théâtre, cette fois sur scène pour la finale, J’ai aussi pensé que j’avais été en finale comme participant 8 ans auparavant pour cette même émission qui m’a tant inspirée.
