Le premier dimanche de chaque mois était toujours le plus crispant lorsque j’étais missionnaire. Ne jamais savoir comment la réunion de jeûne et de témoignages allait se passer. La réunion de témoignages était souvent considérée comme un moment où le micro appartenait à tout le monde. Quand la réunion de témoignage partait en vrille, c’était une torture de rester assis à écouter. Parce que la réunion de témoignages a retenu l’attention des médias dernièrement, avec cette fille de 12 ans qui s’est enregistrée en train de faire son « coming out » pendant une réunion pour ensuite envoyer l’enregistrement à la presse, je voudrais parler des doctrines derrière le témoignage et la réunion de témoignages.
La réunion de témoignage n’est pas censée être un moment où le micro appartient à tout le monde. Ce n’est pas un forum au cours duquel les gens peuvent se plaindre, se confesser, faire de la publicité ou attirer l’attention. Ce n’est pas ça rendre témoignage. En fait, les prophètes nous ont dit quels sont les types de témoignages qui ne sont pas appropriés. Mais il est aussi important de savoir comment rendre un vrai témoignage que de ne pas juger ceux qui rendent le leur. Voici donc trois types de témoignages que nous devrions arrêter de rendre pendant la réunion de jeûne et de témoignages, et ce que nous devrions faire à la place.
Le témoignage « Sermon »
Tout le monde a déjà entendu un témoignage sermon. La personne s’approche du pupitre et partage des citations, des écritures, et parle d’un thème qu’elle pense que nous avons besoin d’entendre. Il n’y a rien de mal à partager une citation ou un verset et à témoigner sur ce sujet. Mais ne sermonnez pas. Ce n’est pas le bon endroit et vous n’avez pas l’autorité pour vous approprier une réunion de cette manière.

Le témoignage « Récits de voyage »
On entend le témoignage « Récits de voyage » le plus souvent pendant les mois d’été. Lorsque j’étais missionnaire, il y a eu un membre qui a « témoigné » à propos d’une sortie en rafting en prenant tellement de temps que l’un de nos amis de l’Eglise s’est levé et est parti. Nous sommes allés chez lui après l’église et il nous a dit : « Ce n’était pas l’église ! » Les récits de voyage ne sont pas mauvais en soi, mais ce ne sont pas des témoignages. Le but d’une réunion de jeûne et de témoignages n’est pas de raconter vos vacances en Californie, à Nauvoo, Kirtland ou Disneyland. C’est de témoigner de la véracité de l’évangile. Bien sûr que vous pouvez dire que vous avez récemment visité tel ou tel endroit et que cela a renforcé votre témoignage. Mais quand vos vacances prennent plus de place que l’évangile, votre témoignage est un Récit de voyage.
Les mêmes principes s’appliquent au témoignage « Médical » pendant lequel vous parlez de vos problèmes de santé. Partager une courte expérience racontant une guérison miraculeuse suite à une bénédiction de prêtrise, une prière ou un jeûne est tout à fait acceptable. Personnellement, j’adore ces miracles, mais s’attarder en décrivant son carnet de santé au point que cela devienne le sujet principal au lieu de l’évangile n’est pas approprié.

Le témoignage « Histoire »
Je tombe souvent dans le piège du témoignage « Histoire ». Je pense que c’est le cas pour beaucoup d’entre nous. Le problème avec ce témoignage est que ce n’en est pas un, c’est un discours. Les discours les plus inspirant que j’ai entendu en réunion de Sainte Cène ont été les histoires de conversions à un principe spécifique. Quand les membres n’ont pas l’occasion de faire des discours au sujet de l’histoire de leur conversion, ils en profitent pour le faire dans un témoignage.
L’évêque de ma paroisse a décidé de changer ça. On ne demanderait plus à qui que ce soit de faire un discours basé sur un discours de conférence. Au lieu de ça, ils partageraient l’histoire de leur conversion. Pourquoi ils ont rejoint l’Eglise, ou comment ils se sont convertis à tel ou tel principe. A ce moment les membres ont réalisé que l’histoire de leur conversion était un discours, pas un témoignage.
